I just started following your group. I find it so interesting that you will be hosting such innovative sessions for teens this summer. Where are you getting some of your materials to share with each other?
Janet I(Jun 09 2021 6:11PM):
You have done something powerful here, created a space for voices and artists in a time when the silence and isolation could at times feel deadly. This is a tribute to what is possible, to strength and the power of voice.
Ian S(Jun 09 2021 5:53PM):
What's the best way to find out more? Will this be on the email list as well as insta? Would you like to speak to this year's FHSA students about the workshops?
Layla H(Jun 09 2021 9:42PM):
Yes, it will be publicized on our Instagram and newsletter, as well as our other socials. However, Instagram is our main platform to find out more about such events. I would definitely love to speak to them about the workshops!
Janet I(Jun 09 2021 6:14PM):
I am interested in what your future projects may look like. The teen leadership and director positions provide such a strong backbone to this project. I think you are much more, and looking more like an organization fostering a movement.
Layla H(Jun 09 2021 9:44PM):
Thank you so much! We definitely emphasize teens helping other teens improve their skills so our director positions definitely are the backbone. Hopefully, educators like you can be involved in our movement too!
Layla H(Jun 09 2021 9:45PM):
Skye Knight made our Issue 07 cover art, in which the colors from her art influence the color scheme for the magazine. Nicaulis and I are in charge of the layout + visual aesthetics of the pages!

As we come back into the light and out into the world this rings true. SO many months teaching behind a screen has put me in a rut of workout pants and slippers. It is the attitude of bringing a rainbow into the light and I am so excited to see how people will bring joy once we can all come back together
Ian S(Jun 09 2021 9:47PM):
I love the way you pointed out how the theme of pride overlaps with the notion of reopening, post-pandemic. A time of renewal, hopefully!
Kiran C(Jun 09 2021 9:46PM):
"Pride in my nation is not a problem... / But what also follows me? / In my community where homophobia / And prejudice is very common."

I can relate to this. It’s painful and saddening when one’s own community — the people whom one recognizes as one’s own — dismiss a whole chunk of one’s identity.
Ian S(Jun 09 2021 9:45PM):
These stanzas made me think of Elliot Page recently coming out as transgender, and describing how it was so hard to imagine their future the way they wanted. I almost wonder how they would respond to this poem?

Wow! there is so much to digest here. I’m just impressed, at the start, with the tech savvy layout and interface of this document. My students in affluent CT aren’t even getting such access to this kind of technology. You folk rock!
