Directions: How might the Habits of Mind help your students reach the SEL Benchmarks?

  1. With your home group, read and discuss and write comments and replies on the New York State Social Emotional Learning Benchmarks for your grade level.
    How to: Making Comments and Annotations Instructions
  2. Go to an expert group, above, and learn more about four of the sixteen Habits of Mind by clicking on an icon, then reading and annotating each of the four habits. Prepare to report back to your home group about the Habits of Mind that you feel are most essential to meeting the SEL Benchmarks.
  3. Return to your home group, and after each member presents, discuss how the Habits of Mind might help students in your classrooms to achieve the SEL Benchmarks.
  4. Read and annotate the Excerpt from: “Four Attributes to Grow a Personalized Learning Culture” in NowComment with ways in which this jigsaw activity allowed you to experience aspects of Four Attributes: Voice, Co-Creation, Social-Construction and Self-Discovery. To make this activity more interactive, you can also “reply” to comments made by your peers.
