Alayna Smith(Sep 15 2021 9:32AM):
i was thinking this same thing. He seems really comfortable and happy up there. It seems very natural for him. He seems very confident about what he is talking about
Professor Jessica Gleason(Sep 15 2021 9:39AM):
I'm sure he practiced this 100 times before giving the talk (or maybe it's a talk he's given several times before).
Viviana Garcia(Sep 15 2021 9:32AM):
I like Kevin's body language. He isn't just standing still or swaying around, he's using his hands to demonstrate and further tell his story.
Ian Blinderman(Sep 15 2021 9:38AM):
The body language he presents really shows that he practices what he preaches, and tries his best to be himself instead of constantly standing in the same "professional" pose.
Professor Jessica Gleason(Sep 15 2021 9:39AM):
That's a great observation. You're right. He's leading by doing instead of just telling people what to do.
Emily Monosa(Sep 15 2021 9:37AM):
As kids we don’t have the fear of being judged by others so we aren’t afraid to talk to strangers, but as we grow this fear develops.
Sage Hudec(Sep 15 2021 9:30AM):
I would agree. I also think him mentioning not caring what others think about him has a play in his openness when speaking.
Alayna Smith(Sep 15 2021 9:31AM):
I really agree with this, he says a lot of things to lighten it up and make it a little bit funny so its more enjoyable to listen to. He smiled a lot and looks like he is enjoying being up there talking
Mikayla Schaenzer(Sep 15 2021 9:30AM):
I agree, once you become comfortable with yourself the people who realize who you really are, leave you as friends and that's okay.
student Aryanah Williams(Sep 15 2021 9:33AM):
I agree with that and I also think that's why sometimes people are afraid of being themselves because they don't want to lose friends
Sage Hudec(Sep 15 2021 9:36AM):
I agree with. I also think that people eventually learn if they leave you as a friend because you are yourself then they never were a true friend.
Ian Blinderman(Sep 15 2021 9:34AM):
In the end, do what makes you happy, regardless of what others may think. You may never see them again so don't worry if they think you're different, just be yourself.
student Aryanah Williams(Sep 15 2021 9:36AM):
I agree with that. Kevin did a good job explaining that from when he was young then to college the differences in what he had to do to try to fit in
Viviana Garcia(Sep 15 2021 9:38AM):
I really agree with this! Worrying about what others think of you is a waste of time because at the end of the day you are your own person. You're not anyone else.
Grace Szczerba(Sep 15 2021 9:39AM):
I agree, we often get caught up in what other have to say about us but why should we care when we won’t know them in a few years and we’re enjoying ourselves now?
Grace Szczerba(Sep 15 2021 9:37AM):
I think Kevin made a good overall point about how our interests and things are always changing and the way we might introduce ourselves will change with it so it’s important to focus on the things we always enjoy such, like finger painting.
Amyah Griffin(Sep 15 2021 9:37AM):
As Kevin speaks about his introductions, you can see how as he gets older they progressively change. His interest change as his ages do. For example, when he was in elementary he would say “Hi my name is Kevin and I like finger paintings-
more
whereas when he went to college he says “hi my name is kevin and my major is…”.
Logan McCormick(Sep 15 2021 9:37AM):
I liked it that Kevin just stopped caring about "fitting in" at some point. Some people just don't feel happy about trying to accept new norms every day.
Sariyah Corbitt(Sep 15 2021 9:40AM):
In his speech, he was very open. He used real examples from his life and childhood to allow the audience to connect with him and how some of them possibly felt if they had the same experience.
Sariyah Corbitt(Sep 15 2021 9:43AM):
I like how Kevin took the audience through his stages of becoming safe with his introduction. His introduction started off open and care-free and as time went on he started to close up with his introductions.

I feel like have hand gestures is a perfect way to enhance what you’re talking about so your audience can feel how passionate you are about the speech or presentations. Some people say its not the best to over gesture a speech but I disagree.
Neydi Delgado(Sep 15 2021 9:39AM):
Hand gestures are a key focus on how to have the audience engaged when your speaking. I find it helps people see how comfortable you are speaking.
Charis Paez(Sep 15 2021 9:35AM):
I really liked how honest he was. It is true that we often are afraid to be ourselves because we are scared of what other people will think. He did a good job of acknowledging this, and how we can overcome it.
Amyah Griffin(Sep 15 2021 9:40AM):
I agree, it reels in the viewer because he is being personable with the audience by showing it is okay to be yourself while giving a formal speech.
Ian Blinderman(Sep 15 2021 9:36AM):
You have to be willing to stand out and be different in order to find valuable company, if you aren't, you will be stuck around very mundane people.
Emily Monosa(Sep 15 2021 9:38AM):
I agree if you stick to the “normal” and not how you truly feel, you won’t be happy and you will be stuck in a position because you just wanted to fit in.
Paige Phillips(Sep 15 2021 9:40AM):
I can understand this, as almost every person on the first day of a new class gave "safe" intro speeches about things like siblings, sports, or pets (the most popular options).

Over time introductions has changed with us and our age. Its normal to act your age then to have the same introduction your whole life, like think about if you had to introduce yourself like you did in first grade as you did now? People would think you were weird or crazy.
It’s hard to think that people judge on your introduction when you first meet them.
Paige Phillips(Sep 15 2021 9:43AM):
I have never thought about the idea of using one introduction my whole life, but it makes sense. I would hope someone meeting me at these various times would feel as comfortable as any time in my life.

I agree with Kevin on not caring the need to fit in and doing an introduction that makes me happy. Because at the end of the day everything that you do should make you happy even if it starts as a simple introduction.
Emily Monosa(Sep 15 2021 9:39AM):
I agree, we need to stop thinking about how people we don’t know view us because it only matters if we are happy on the inside. We don’t need to be unhappy because we want to “fit in” or be “normal”.
Neydi Delgado(Sep 15 2021 9:44AM):
I agree 100% everyone should feel comfortable being themselves. Even with a simple introduction. It amazes me how people will judge with just a introduction.
