The students were asked to show what how the opposite of listening with understanding and empathy looks

The father dismissing the child was an excellent example of the opposite of empathy. I think many adults sometimes brush aside what a child may be feeling because they may see it as ‘not a big deal’ or think they need to just get over it. I thought this was a great way to show that a child needs their feelings acknowledged even if what they are upset about is over something seemingly small.
