This student would benefit from more explicit guidelines (learning targets) probing questions and student samples that show how expectations can be met.
He could also use an introduction sentence telling where he was, when and what happened. You might use a sentence frame to begin with.
Giving questions like these is very helpful. We might explore ways to make them even more clear to students.
For example: Introduce your characters and tell where they are.
Explain the problem or goal.
Tell what they did to solve the problem or reach the goal.
Explain what happened as a result of their actions.
Tell how they felt and what we can learn.
