Is this done alone or in groups? Do they understand that brainstorming means thinking out of the box and then we go back to determine which is most significant and can be supported by the text?

This shows how the character felt at first, but not the change in thinking. Even the explanation in the next column could be developed further. This student is close, and with prodding could develop ideas more fully.

This student does not seem to understand the term evidence. Even before writing, he could mark the lines that tell what the character learned and/or how and get his references checked before moving on.

The student’s thinking in the right direction, but needs help understanding what is expected here. It seems as if the class might need to do one together and then practice working in groups. This is a challenging task and it takes practice to get it right.
