Yu Cao (Nov 07 2022 2:04AM) : The images of the different parks help us to see the unique features of each park. The background is also designed to look like a trail, complementing the theme of the poster and leading to the image of the heart (and message on improved heart health). more

Images are also used effectively in the ‘hiking checklist’ as they provide a visual overview what each item on the checklist is about.

In terms of form and spatial organization, the bullet points used allow readers to access the safety precautions easily and quickly. Also the various venues are arranged according to their altitudes, and helps readers comprehend the key messages more quickly and completely.

The choice of colours (blue, green and pastel colours) aim to evoke a sense of calm and serenity. It has got to do with the message of the poster which is to go for a walk, which is usually associated with being calm and collected.

Along the trail, there are pictures showing the places where the exercises can be done. The details of the elevated trails are also clearly depicted. The colour of the heart is in red, showing it to be healthy and fit. The checklist is bulleted and spaced out. This is to make the content easier for the readers to comprehend.

In particular, the use of the heart icon as a mascot and as bullet points and the use of the colour red in different parts of the poster tie in with the theme of ‘elevate your heart’, creating an overall cohesive effect.

The choice of colours that are dominantly light blue and light green give a sense of calm and tie in with the concept of nature. Contrasting the green and blue is a striking red which represents a healthy heart. It gives the overall idea that being in nature helps one to be healthy.

While the words are effective at sending useful information about staying healthy, the layout actually affects the way I have perceived it to be initially.

The use of the illustration of the heart at the summit of the hill represents the poster’s aim of getting readers to consider their physical health, representing how important it is to start a journey of keeping one’s heart and health at tip-top condition.

The layout of the text, with the placement of the different suggestions of places readers could go to for hiking, as well as the checklist below, enhances this information text.

The use of the word ‘Elevate’ is clever as it is able to convey the purposes of the event.
The info is also presented in a tasteful manner, with bite-sized chunks of text laid out throughout the poster, each accompanied with an illustration to add more visual interest (e.g. pictures of the different places along the trail, illustrations of items on the Hiking Checklist).
