If by Rudyard Kipling
paragraph 1-4 talk about not giveing up
If you can keep your head when all about you
This is helpful thanks
great point
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
Yes it means you should believe in yourself even if everyone doubts you
You can trust yourself even if others don’t
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don’t deal in lies,
I believe this is saying that if someone is telling lies about you don’t lie about them
Like don’t be rude to someone just because they are rude to you
What do you mean don’t lie about the lies?
Or being hated, don’t give way to hating,
Yes like if you are getting bullied don’t be a bully back.
And yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise:
If you can dream—and not make dreams your master;
I think this means that you can have dreams but don’t let your dreams overtake you and become your whole life. You can relate this to wanting something but once you have it you want something else and then it just becomes just something that overtakes your mind and your life.
If you can think—and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build ’em up with worn-out tools:
If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breathe a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: ‘Hold on!’
If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with Kings—nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,
And—which is more—you’ll be a Man, my son!
Warning by Jenny Joseph
When I am an old woman I shall wear purple
With a red hat which doesn't go, and doesn't suit me.
And I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer gloves
And satin sandals, and say we've no money for butter.
I shall sit down on the pavement when I'm tired
And gobble up samples in shops and press alarm bells
And run my stick along the public railings
And make up for the sobriety of my youth.
I shall go out in my slippers in the rain
And pick flowers in other people's gardens
And learn to spit.

she is talking abt childhood i think
She is talking about how she wants to do everything she wasn’t aloud to do when she grows up, but then realizes that she shouldn’t do that and that that would be a bad example for kids.
And eat three pounds of sausages at a go
Or only bread and pickle for a week
And hoard pens and pencils and beermats and things in boxes.
But now we must have clothes that keep us dry
And pay our rent and not swear in the street
And set a good example for the children.
We must have friends to dinner and read the papers.
But maybe I ought to practice a little now?
So people who know me are not too shocked and surprised
When suddenly I am old, and start to wear purple.
now that i look closer i think that she wasn’t aloud to wear purple as a child because in the text she is talking about how when she grows up she wants to do things she probably wasn’t aloud to do as a child like sit on the side walk and eat shop samples and press alarm bells, but then she realizes she won’t have time to do all that and that that would be setting a bad example so now she is trying to be good and nice to set a good example so that kids won’t do what she wanted to do when she grew old.
purple is for older people that is why
yes I agree
Because she like sayin she gonna wear purple and be bad and its like a warning about all the stuff she finna do
