There was a lot to think about and to consider how to apply in the classroom, and in this letter I’d like to focus on [choose one topic, theory, approach, or idea that you think is important] because [Write a few sentences to explain why you have chosen this. It is important to do such things as journaling, especially allowing students to have their own space to journal and feel safe. Journal entry "assignments" can be prompts about their personal feelings, or about what they want out of the school year. Either way, this is a fantistic way for students to write more and be able to keep track of their goals and writing themselves.

I would like to propose that we [Describe the learning activity that you want to do with the students. Write this brief overview of the task in one or two sentences. They will have the time to journal their feelings every day, but the time can be used for other things as well. What is important, is for students to have at least one entry at the end of every week, but they are welcomed to do more.

This makes it that students can easily share their journals, or ensure certain things stay private. This also makes it easier to check when students have added a journal entry.

The students will be making [Be specific about the modes and media you will have available for student to use. What choices will they be able to make? Here’s how I think we might introduce this activity. We could give these directions to the students:
[Write the step-by-step directions you will be giving the students. They will be shown how to use the website, how they can add AI comments and so forth. Then, the students will be told the create their own notebook, where they will be adding their journal entries to whenever they are written. Students will be allowed to partner up with someone they trust and they will be able to comment on each others entries.

I would also propose that the students give each other feedback on their work. They could use this checklist to self-assess and to give each other feedback:
This activity should take at least [add the number of minutes it will take here] twent minutes to complete, which should allow time for productive struggle. To encourage persistence, I think we might [Describe how you might encourage students and give them opportunities to revise and resubmit their work.] allow students several opportunites during class time to either do work / independent reading / or write in their journals.

When they have finished this activity, I would be great if we could ask the students to write and talk about how they used one of these four Habits of Mind.
I will also use these Habits of Mind to give the students both written and oral feedback while they are working and once the finish their work!
Thank you for taking the time to consider this proposal. I hope you see how valuable this activity could be for our students. Please let me know if you have any revisions that I might consider for this activity. I look forward to working with you on this.

How would you encourage journaling on a daily basis? Routines sometimes take a while to get used to. Would you include this in your curriculum? How would you assess this?
