3 There was a lot to think about and to consider how to apply in the classroom, and in this letter I’d like to focus on the importance of staying healthy and taking care of yourself first so that you are able to function each day and live a happy life. I think it is very important to discuss this with students so that they know that no matter what comes across in life they need to understand how important it is to stay healthy. I have put together a collection of articles and a video on why it is very important to stay healthy and what it does to our bodies which can have a huge effect on us.

Marina L Marina L (Aug 07 2023 6:26PM) : Great to mention that you started a collection. Your teacher may even want to contribute resources into it.

4 I would like to propose that as a class what does the word healthy mean to you. After this discussion, I will give students the definition. Next, as a class I will call on students to answer the question of what they do each day to stay healthy. I would allow a few students to share their answers. After that I will read students an article so that they can have a discussion with their classmates about the importance of staying healthy and what they need to do in order to remain healthy. Students will also be given an opportunity to make a chart with their group members of things that they should do to remain healthy and the things that they shouldn’t do.

Marina L Marina L (Aug 07 2023 6:27PM) : I think that it is great that you are building an explore/explain experience. First, let them explore what they all know about the word healthy. Then give explicit instruction. This is an important component of Problem based learning.

6 The students will be making a chart in groups of what they need to do to remain healthy and what they shouldn’t do. Students will be able to go back to the article if necessary. Students wouldn’t need any media to use.

7 Here’s how I think we might introduce this activity. We could give these directions to the students: First, teacher will read aloud the article. Students will be allowed to take notes so that they can use it when working in groups. Next teacher will play the video that goes along with the article. Then, in groups students will start working on their assignment using their chart paper. Each student in the group should contribute to At Least one idea on the chart paper. Students should be talking to one another and working together to come up with what they believe is important to do to stay healthy. After 15-20 minutes teacher will call on each group to share what they came up with.
