Mischief Kids (Resurrected) by Jared Auble
Oh minute one, oh minute one.
Give me one minute, please, I’m a mental wreck.
And I’m debating with myself and the little men typing messages in my mind.
I can’t believe, I can’t believe this kind of thing can be so easy for everyone else, but
weigh so heavy on my shoulders, I think it might break my act.
Hanging around with the mischief kids.
Not the best thing to do, but it makes me feel alright.
Alright, alright.
No one can see through my tinted glass.
If I put on a show, let’s hope it goes alright.
Alright, alright, alright.
Ten seconds left, ten seconds left.
If I can hold out this final note long enough, maybe I’ll have everyone convinced of this
latest variation of my identity.
I can’t breathe, I can’t breathe.
This fake ass character I’m trying to be is suffocating me.
Please, just find me a place that I belong.
Hanging around with the mischief kids.
Not the best thing to do, but it makes me feel alright.
Alright, alright.
No one can see through my tinted glass.
If I put on a show, let’s hope it goes alright.
Alright, alright, alright.
I’m at breaking point.
I’m quickly drowning in my own confusion.
I’m so damn insecure, I’m just a wreck.
Fix me, fix me.
Pick up all my broken pieces, I am damaged.
The mischief kids aren’t there for me in the end.
Hanging around with the mischief kids.
Not the best thing to do, but it makes me feel alright.
Alright, alright.
Hanging around with the mischief kids.
Not the best thing to do, but it makes me feel alright.
Alright, alright.
No one can see through my tinted glass.
If I put on a show, let’s hope it goes alright.

Are the mischief kids someone you know or are they purely imaginative for the sake of the song?

The mischief kids are not actual people. Well, they can be, but when I wrote this I used “mischief kids” to represent certain emotions I was experiencing at the time. The mischief kids are the ones your parents warn you about, the bad influences, the troublemakers. But deep down inside, the mischief kids can be good people shrouded by a bad name. They can be your crutch because no one else will give you a chance, and they will help you through. Not always in the best ways, but they still are there for you. The emotional resort that the mischief kids represent are viewed as negative, and the confusion that goes along with them is maybe their bad effect, but sometimes when everything is looking down and you’re finding yourself, the mischief kids will stand in and help you through. I don’t know if this explained it well enough, but I hope so.

What makes you think someone is being a “fake” ass character? In high school aren’t most kids trying to find their identity?

That’s what I like about this one, man. The symbolism led me to a different meaning than I think you were going for, where the mischief kids were a positive kind of thing. I don’t know if that’s what you were going for… It branches it out. Rock and roll.

I recorded this in my bedroom studio. I run every thing through Logic Pro Studios 9. I run my guitar direct line through a PreSonus AudioBox USB as well as my Blue Bluebird Condenser Mic. The background synth pad was a Logic instrument controlled by an M-Audio Axiom 49. Oh, and of course, a Sousa Band harmonica!
