Title: Starting a College Admissions Essay

If I were in high school, what would I write about in a College Acmissions Essay? It's a funny question because I barely even thought about what colleges were available and what would fit my capabililities and interssts. So I sort of stumbled into college, going to Nyack College until I couldn't do the religious thing any more, and needed to follow my passions with art and photography. But what if I had taken the time, been given the prompts by a guidance counselor or parent or teacher to think about college as a place to grow and stretch. What would I have written about?

Well, for starters, you have quite an interesting list here. Let’s delve in and pick a topic I can model some thinking and writing preparation for.

First, I’ll choose topic one, “Public life of a preacher’s son”. It promises a unique perspective about growing up and the dichotomy between public perception and personal understanding. You might begin asking questions such as: How was my childhood different due to my father’s role as a preacher? How has it shaped who I am? This could provide ample opportunity to highlight values such as empathy, resilience or humility, elements that are often important in a college admission essay.

Now let me walk you through this. The essay should start with a gripping introduction, perhaps a snippet from your life that illustrates this dichotomy. Then delve into the body where you narrate experiences that helped you grow, maybe it could be about overcoming hurdles, learning important life lessons or finding your true self amidst the pressure of living a public life. You could also touch upon how this unique upbringing fueled your curiosity and learning in a particular field. Finally, touch upon why these lessons would make you a good fit for the college and end with a poignant, but positive conclusion.

Now, let’s try another one. For variety’s sake, let’s go for topic 2, “Photography the center of my life since middle school”. This topic is much more skill-oriented and could highlight your creativity, dedication, and passion. Ask yourself: How did I get into photography? How has it influenced my perception of the world? This can capture your artistic flair and your commitment to this craft, all while revealing a bit more about your personality.

In thinking this through, begin with a nostalgic remembrance of the first picture you took or sliding your first film into a camera, progressing to describe how your skills refined over time. Talk about your exploration in this field, what inspires you to create, and how it has broadened your perspective. And remember, it is about sharing your unique journey along with showcasing your creativity and passion.

Finally, for the third item, let’s approach the less conventional subject -“Consumed the written and audio of Marshall McLuhan’s Medium is the Message”. This shows a deep curiosity beyond traditional curriculum. Reflect upon the impact McLuhan’s teaching has had on your perspective. Did it alter the way you consumed media or think about society?

In explicating this, commencing with a vivid description about stumbling your way to McLuhan’s work could be intriguing. Then detail your experience and learning, drawing parallels between the theories and their manifestation in real life. Also, connect it to your ambitions or ideals and wrap up by linking this understanding to the college education you’re seeking.

Isn’t this exciting? You have a treasure trove of personal experiences and ideas, it’s your turn to unveil it. Pick your favorite topic from the list, and start crafting your story! Remember, your personal journey is unique and colouring it with your emotions, insights and learning will captivate the reader. So, start your narrative right over there on the left side. Come up with a working title, “‘Your-Topic’- Through my Lens” and let it fly!

Title: Re-naming AI Thiking Partners

My taks this morning is to reorganize and rename the AI Thinking Partners that already exist and to update the pop-ups. I want to do this to make the user interface easier to use. I kind of realize that this is a small part of what needs to be done. I think I also need to follow through on replacing the first practice post that people get, and other such example giving on the site to show what AI Thinking Partners can do.

Identifies problems and says why they are important to study

I see at least two “Wicked Problems” in this text.

The first problem I identify is the need for reorganization and renaming the AI Thinking Partners while updating the pop-ups. This matters because an intuitive and user-friendly interface is crucial for any application’s success. The difficulty arises due to conflicting and changing demands of users as well as evolving technology. The contradictory aspect comes in as while some users may find a interface intuitive, others may not.

The quote “My task this morning is to reorganize and rename the AI Thinking Partners that already exist and to update the pop-ups. I want to do this to make the user interface easier to use.” shows this problem.

The second wicked problem is replacing the first practice post and other examples to show the capabilities of AI Thinking Partners. This is crucial as the initial user experience sets a precedent for the user’s future interaction with the application. Again, this is a wicked problem because defining a perfect initial user experience is subjective and varies from user to user.

The statement: “I kind of realize that this is a small part of what needs to be done. I think I also need to follow through on replacing the first practice post that people get, and other such example giving on the site to show what AI Thinking Partners can do.” shows this problem clearly.

I feel these two are the major “Wicked Problems” here. Do you see any other wicked problems? Or maybe have thoughts on the ones we’ve discussed?

Generating Themes for Freewriting Mentor with Paul A's edits:
Generating Themes for Freewriting Mentor
Identifies three possible themes in the text, then describes how to do...

Analyzing your question, I recognize three potential themes that you might explore in your freewriting session. The themes are:

1) The role and influence of AI Thinking Partners in education.
2) The preparedness and adaptability of students toward new technology like ChatGPT.
3) The intersection of technology and education in the contemporary world.

For your freewriting exercise, you might consider focusing on the impact of AI Thinking Partners in modern classrooms first. Then, you could shift your attention to students’ readiness and their adaptability in embracing and applying ChatGPT technology. Finally, ponder upon the symbiotic relationship between education and technology, contemplating how one impacts and shapes the other.

Remember, your prompt is not a prescription, but an invitation. Let your words flow freely without pausing to correct or judge. If you get stuck, keep repeating your last thought until a new one strikes. This exercise bids you to delve into your thoughts and explore your perspectives on these themes. Unleash your thoughts for ten minutes, write swiftly without rushing, get curious, and see where your subconscious mind takes you on this journey.

One gentle reminder: Never stop your pen or keyboard, let it create magic in the silence of your thoughts.

Wicked Problem Coach
Identifies problems and says why they are important to study

Okay, let’s break this down together.

Firstly, it seems there is a ‘Wicked Problem’ relating to clarity and context. The content here is not easily understandable, making it hard to determine what the precise issue or questions are. This matters because without clear communication it’s nearly impossible to address the issue or provide constructive help. The reason this can be a ‘Wicked Problem’ is that without knowing the context or having a clear request, it’s hard to discern the required solution. This is echoed in this part of the text: “I want to have a good example of logs and text some of the new AI Thinking Partners for College Acmissions Essays.”

Another ‘Wicked Problem’ here could be that the author is potentially trying to incorporate AI into college admissions essays process, but it is unclear how this should be done or what role the AI is expected to play. This is an important issue because using AI in educational settings must be thoughtfully and ethically executed to ensure fairness and efficacy. This is a ‘Wicked Problem’ because of the evolving nature of AI technology and the often-complex implications it can have in an educational setting which aren’t easy to predict or manage. This problem is embedded in the latter part of the statement: “some of the new AI Thinking Partners for College Acmissions Essays.”

Do you see any other ‘Wicked Problems’ in this text that I may have missed? Or would you like to delve deeper into the ones that I’ve identified?
