Title: Kim Douillard Explores the Power of Images
4 "When I’m out viewing the world through my camera lens, I find myself thinking…about teaching, about life, about the world. My photos stimulate my thinking and my thinking sets me out in search of images." -- Kim

Trying to interrupt the vanishing point by putting in as nearly invisible a word as possible. But it is a call to breathe that I think inspired Luke’s post and picture. Just a guess on my part. I want the word to be like a rock or a fern, just part of the natural landscape. I probably need to lower the word a bit.

His image is attached to him as intellectual property. I didn’t credit Luke on the image to the right. Conscious choice. Maybe illegal. Hope Luke is not litigious.

Why did Kevin use yellow here and in his last line. Visibility?

It’s funny how many “decisions” are like this—almost pedestrian.

I really was focused on the two trees just before the vanishing point. I imagined the breath going into the vanishing point between the trees and then back out between trees, a perfect meditative picture. Of course, beautiful.

I really like the “course in a box” feel of this. We could each add more documents as we saw fit. LIke a digital accordian file?

It depends how Terry configures the document (either at time of upload or later from Document Properties). The default is that only Document Owner can add stuff, but he/she can override that and let those invited to the document add stuff…. idea is to maybe have collaborative curation of current events, collections of resources and references, etc.
If the doc is configured for others to add things then there would be a small blue button in towards the bottom left saying something like “add to this document”.
Hope this helps… enjoy your weekends!

I made it so that you can add docs. A collaborative lesson plan anyone?

I like how the words are layered over the image, embossing the image in a way. Very cool.

this is next level revising here. how much of me needs to be overtly in the poem? We made very different choices here that led dif places, dif riffs.

And my eyes kept going upstream into the vanishing point. Maybe I got salmon in my DNA and you got racoon or bear waiting for the salmon in yours.

Beginning excerpt:
It has often been my dream
To live with one who wasn’t there
Like an ocean fish who swam upstream
Through nets, by hooks, and hungry bears.
When the water grew less deep
My fins were aching from the strain
I’m swimming in my sleep
I know I can’t go back again.

This vid annotation feature is just being rolled out and will be announced officially at the next TTT. Hey you can annotate images, too. This tool is triple threat.

Marvelous vanishing point that is composed to draw your eye from the water and splash all the way back between the trees and beyond. I imagine the chapter in “Wind in the Willows” called “Piper at the Gates of Dawn”—the demi-god Pan.
…I almost always make conscious decisions about framing a photo and often settle with whatever my instinctive “first” was. So for this one, I was standing in the middle of the stream and lookup upstream and considered that large rock, and how it might interrupt the balance as its so dominant, but then included because it was part of the view and therefore played into the feeling of standing in the middle of a stream, near a large pool, in the middle of a redwood forest. So many stream shots don’t have a disruptive object like that large rock, the focus is on the water and its movement. I wanted the water to be prominent, but that’s only part of the experience of that afternoon, by and in the river.

OK, this is exactly what I was waiting for. The story behind the picture. It’s not that it explains the photo, but rather that it puts it into another context, one that has cred. However, if you put on certain litcrit lenses (reader response theory) the emphasis is on how the audience interprets the photo, not on how you do, Luke. Your artistic take on this and reflections back to us are why I started this space. I could not have asked for more. This has been so much fun for me. (Maybe that says more about my twisted idea of fun, than it does about the experience, but I certainly feel like the circuit has been connected, a definite click, in my understanding of this photo. Thanks again for sharing…and the road goes on forever and the party never ends…https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wYCxl0naHsA

In putting these two pix side by side I think of a pair of lungs in a body. One side ‘breathes’ in and like a meditation asks you to pay attention to your ‘breath’ or in this case the breathing landscape.
The other lung is the breathing out, the voicing and the speaking of the self in response.

REally wanting Luke to be a part of this.

You should be able to append documents now. Let me know if you the little blue “Add to Documents” button. If not let me know.
