Really? These sound like schooly, researchable questions. I’m not convinced that these come from his interests.
Or why do they think these controversies happened at all? It would also be interesting to see where students/citizens choose to get their information about politics (if any do) and which sources of information they trust, in these times of media inundation.
I think it’s really strong to have the audio overlap as the messages appear on screen. It also points to the idea that media tries to overwhelm the public with information, and it can be hard to not be influenced in a particular way. It’s a call to be critical about the media’s voice.

I feel like we’re listening to a young man struggling to break through to something that is important to him through this research.

Did we establish this? Brian is giving supporting evidence for a claim he hasn’t made.
What is this?

What about the Supreme Court’s decision to not allow a recount of the votes in Florida? Brian’s statements here feel uncomfortably incomplete.

Such a cursory question! Where are the details here? What are they really fighting for? Would it be done by changing state laws, by changing how the Electoral College works or eliminating it?

Voting is one of the weakest ways of doing this.
Great tactic for illustrating the democracy of the subject matter.
I agree with these guys!
**Maybe this comment is too politically charged? I wrote this thinking, let me edit it later, because I’m not sure if I should share any personal views or comments. What do you guys think??
Generally speaking, I think background music in documentaries needs to be kept to a very low volume when the dialogue is the main focus. Even at nearly quiet volumes, people will still recognize the music’s role in livening up the scene, while not taking away from the message of what’s being stated. Common mistake.

Again, as a viewer I’m starving for what this scene suggests: that youth have important questions and ideas about what is happening in their neighborhood, and that they can build on each others insights to make sense of the political situation they are living in.

Why? I’d like Brian to give his own reasons for wanting to include his mother in this video.

Love how these clips work, wondering where it’s going to go. Still, I worry about how outside -literally and figurative - Brian feels in these scenes.

The video is about making the video, which has an appeal, but would it be possible to be actually doing something and have the video follow you doing that?
What I am suggesting might be too hard to coordinate, but even if there were new people with questions for the Councilman brought along for this interview segment, a moment where Councilman Martinez has an open discussion with our host Brian and local citizens could have been very compelling. Thoughts?

I’m listening, and I’m open to accept that the making of a video can be the process of finding your interest, but what if you come to the making with a passion?

Journeys Through the Red, White & Blue, a documentary produced by a team of New York City youth of color, is specifically designed to address the interests and concerns of their peers. Blending humor, plain-spoken language, civics lessons, and interviews with friends, family members, local political leaders and community activists, this engaging documentary puts a face on "the youth vote." Following the stories of Brian, Shon, and Tidiane, the films offer three unique explorations into the voting process: on the balance between local and national politics, on the legacy of African American voting rights, and on the rights and possibilities for immigrant participation.
