I wonder if some of these inventions like the virtual reality are based off of his writings? Maybe the inventors read his stories and created his reality?
Lucas Summers(Mar 09 2017 5:07PM):
I think it's crazy that virtual reality was a simple little prediction all the way in the 1950's and actually became a thing in 1992.
I thought that using and ATM is pretty cool because there could a huge line at the bank so why not just use an ATM to to tell you how much money you have.
Is the wrist radio really related to the phone? We don’t wear our cell phone on our wrist (excluding apple watch). And we also don’t usually use the radio on our phones.
Frannie Arlinghaus(Mar 09 2017 5:09PM):
I didn't know that the "smart home" concept was made in the 1190s. I thought it was still being changed and made better
Catie Sulken(Mar 09 2017 5:09PM):
Ray Bradbury wrote about a virtual reality room in 1950, then it was invented in 1992. There is a huge gap. I wonder if the person who invented the virtual reality room got the idea from Ray Bradbury.
Lizzy Ward(Mar 09 2017 5:09PM):
I think that the way that he described earbuds was in a weird, but accurate way. It's strange how he predicted something as little as that.
EMMA TODD(Mar 09 2017 5:10PM):
I thought that it was really cool how he predicted that they would be invented. I also thought it was interesting that he even thought of that as something to predict. I would have never thought of that.
Mei Ling Yung(Mar 09 2017 5:10PM):
I find this interesting because there are a lot of simulations now a days. Ones that are made just for your eyes, for your whole body, etc.
Claire Mengel(Mar 09 2017 5:10PM):
I think it is interesting to think about how our technology could do things like it did in the story, especially with things like electronic surveillance and and an automated home.
Lucas Summers(Mar 09 2017 5:11PM):
I wonder how the author came up with this idea? Back then it was hard to imagine there would be cell phones or anything like that.
Corey Mcchesney(Mar 09 2017 5:11PM):
Ray bradbury thought of earbuds before many other people thought of it and the Technology came out in 1990, creepy.
Gehrig Baldauf(Mar 09 2017 5:11PM):
The idea is a little different but has the same concept. I like it how it is, if we had robots with our money that would be odd.
Frannie Arlinghaus(Mar 09 2017 5:11PM):
With this paragraph I thougth they were taking about the apple watch but then i realized they were taking about a phone which makes more sense.
Lizzy Ward(Mar 09 2017 5:11PM):
The way that the automated home is described in the story makes our present day "smart homes" seem creepy and really futuristic.
Sam Gardner(Mar 09 2017 5:12PM):
I don't know really what this is because in this description it makes it so like there are robots and it doesn't really see, that way right now.
Hannah Miller(Mar 09 2017 5:12PM):
I think Ray Bradbury was just guessing. Because he predicted the Virtual Reality Room would come out in 1950, but it came out 42 years later. Im thinking he wouldve been closer to the year if he put thought into it. It just seems like hes really off.
Claire Mengel(Mar 09 2017 5:12PM):
I had no idea something like this was actually invented in 1990 because it seems like virtual reality is such a new field.
Brennen Dever(Mar 09 2017 5:12PM):
Stuff I Noticed
more
ray Bradbury predicted stuff in Fahrenheit 451 that happened in real life such as seashell radios, wall TV, drones and round the clock bank services. he also predicted VR Rooms
Drew Poellein(Mar 09 2017 5:12PM):
I wonder if the invention of spy satellites and security cameras was due to fear of other countries or if it was because there was a lot of crime in the country.
Lizzy Ward(Mar 09 2017 5:13PM):
I noticed that some of the things that he predicted last where the earlier things to be invented. The ATM is at the bottom of the list, but it was made second out of all the technology.
Linda Desjardinns(Mar 09 2017 5:13PM):
when I read the first one it was the virtual reality and it like switching from one different thing to another completly different thing.
Mia Rohrer(Mar 09 2017 5:13PM):
This is interesting
more
It’s interesting that Bradbury predicted wrist phones. We do have handheld phones that are commonly used by people to both make calls and play music. There are also things like the Apple Watch, which can makes calls and go on your wrist.
Gehrig Baldauf(Mar 09 2017 5:13PM):
I think this is one of the coolest things out there. You can build stuff in a virtual world that you can't in real life its amazing.
EMMA TODD(Mar 09 2017 5:13PM):
I wonder if he thinks that to get a tv installed that you have to have the whole wall torn down. I think that would be super expensive.
Lucas Summers(Mar 09 2017 5:14PM):
It probably didn't cause much to think about this prediction. All he thought of was to make TV's bigger and put them on walls. But it's still cool that this was a prediction to the future.
Mei Ling Yung(Mar 09 2017 5:23PM):
I can kind of imagine that. Like if you've ever gone to Target, they have all the displays of TVs all in one place. Or if you are sunning security footage, you would have a lot of screens to look at
Drew Poellein(Mar 09 2017 5:14PM):
I can't imagine what phones were like back then, they must have been huge. Cellphones technology has advanced so much over the years.
Claire Mengel(Mar 09 2017 5:14PM):
I think it is weird how all of these inventions are so normalized now, like a cell phone, when back then it was only in the words of science fiction and dystopian writers.I wonder if any technology from our current books will actually exist?
[Edited]
Lucas Summers(Mar 09 2017 5:15PM):
To be honest, I never really thought that virtual reality was thing in the 1990's I thought it was more of a modern thing since it requires modern day technology but I guess it still was a thing, just maybe in a whole different way.
EMMA TODD(Mar 09 2017 5:15PM):
This and the ATM are not the same but they have a little in common. I think that this was nto really worth putting on because its not that close to an ATM but i do think that what he predicted will happen later on in the future.
Corey Mcchesney(Mar 09 2017 5:15PM):
Imagine having the ideal of a virtual reality in the 1950s, that would be crazy. 42 years later a virtual reality actually came out, isn't that crazy
Frannie Arlinghaus(Mar 09 2017 5:15PM):
I think it is interesting to see that Ray Bradbury thought of virtual reality rooms when we just starting to use them
Catie Sulken(Mar 09 2017 5:15PM):
Ray Bradbury wrote about a thing he called a "Wall TV" in the 1950's. Yet the large flat-screen TV wasn't invented until 1997. I think that it this is cool because Ray Bradbury was kind of predicting the future.
Gehrig Baldauf(Mar 09 2017 5:16PM):
Now we have earbuds that just vibrate, they don't even play sound they just vibrate around your ears, so you can hear it.
Mia Rohrer(Mar 09 2017 5:17PM):
Automated Home
more
In Bradbury’s prediction, he thought that a house would care for its dead owner. The current smart house can’t do that. But why would a house care for someone who has died?
Lucas Summers(Mar 09 2017 5:18PM):
I don't really see how this is a change. Helicopters still have surveillance cameras on them. Maybe this was an example to show that this lead to security cameras in buildings.
Lauren Klimkowski(Mar 09 2017 5:20PM):
I noticed....
more
I noticed that the wrist radio related to the phone but We don’t wear our cell phone on our wrist. The wrist radio actually reminded me about the apple watch.
Linda Desjardinns(Mar 09 2017 5:21PM):
I think it was cool like how for the earphones they call it a completly different thing like the seashelles and then the earphones.
Lauren Klimkowski(Mar 09 2017 5:22PM):
I was thinking......
more
I thought that it was really cool how he predicted that these things would be invented. I also thought it was cool that he had the imagination to predict these things.
Molly Butkovich(Mar 09 2017 5:10PM):
It's amazing how just a thought or idea can come to be a few years later. How our technology has changed from years past and something like a phone that is common to us, was like a dream to others many years ago.
Jonathan Lee(Mar 09 2017 5:21PM):
I think it's really interesting how Ray Bradbury was able to predict all of our future technology so many years before. I wonder if tech makers like Apple came up with ideas for technology by reading some of Ray Bradbury's old stories.
Mei Ling Yung(Mar 09 2017 5:21PM):
If engineers saw Ray Bradbury's predictions, I think the Apple watch or something like it would come first before cellphones.
Donovan Hice(Mar 09 2017 5:14PM):
Wrist Watch Technology
more
I find it really cool that the author of these books had predicted these insane machines, especially the “wrist radio” and the “seashell radios” Which turned out to be a smart watch and earbuds.
Sami Colglazier(Mar 09 2017 5:12PM):
I feel like the newest version of this would be the drone with video cameras for short term or the nest video camera for long term because you can talk into your phone and it will come through the camera.
Donovan Hice(Mar 09 2017 5:16PM):
Surveillance Cameras
more
I’m really surprised that the idea of camera surveillance wasn’t introduced into later in Bradbury’s life, how far might the technology have come if it was all created sooner than it was?
Our the robots in Bradbury’s story related more to humans or machines? Some of the ATM’s aren’t open all night so that wouldn’t be the same as the robots.
Hayden Trammell(Mar 09 2017 5:14PM):
If he knew about the ATM and all of the other things before this what if there is more things of his that will come out in the future
Molly Butkovich(Mar 09 2017 5:15PM):
Although its not exactly the same as today, it's amazing how much our technology has advanced. This concept would be amazing though if we were to go into nuclear wars.
When the first phones came out not everyone was able to afford them. Actually very few people were able to afford them, so when the person is Bradbury’s story was being called by his friends and family it isn’t all relatable.
Molly Butkovich(Mar 09 2017 5:21PM):
That's true, but now that technology has advanced and more things are being created, the "older" stuff is more affordable for others.
Jonathan Lee(Mar 09 2017 5:26PM):
It's weird to think about how back in 1983 when the cell phone came out, they probably weren't very common and only a few people had them, but now cell phones are so common and almost everyone has one.
Jonathan Lee(Mar 09 2017 5:22PM):
I think it's strange to think about how back in 1997, big TV's were so uncommon, but now, just 20 years later, almost everyone has a tv in their house and they've become so much more common.
ethan due(Mar 09 2017 7:44PM):
I am so wowed how they could make a virtual reality room but surprisingly I never hear of it, I wonder what it's like?
[Edited]
Dr. Quinn Duong(May 22 2019 7:47PM):
There isn't really a Virtual Reality Room today though there is indeed a device that can harbor your thoughts which can be also known as Virtual Reality. Kind of like Sword Art Online for you nerds.
ethan due(Mar 09 2017 7:48PM):
I had no video phones came out in 1983 its crazy how much phones have changed from back then now we have a touch screen and we can play games on them and and more ect
Mei Ling Yung(Mar 09 2017 5:16PM):
I would have to say that it is almost like an Apple watch. It can play music, text or call friends and family and maybe do more
Lauren Klimkowski(Mar 09 2017 5:14PM):
I wonder......

I find it very cool that the walls that probably have a screen on them, can produce different things in 3 endometrial, so to the human eye, it makes it look realistic.
Is it wired or something? Because I do not understand how a robot might function all day and night without needing to charge, or need a battery to function.
