Health is something everyone is familiar with. When we think of health, we think about our condition right now, our habits and our illnesses. Medical care is what helps us when we have problems with these circumstances. Unfortunately, not everyone has it for them or their families.
The past year has been an absolute rollercoaster that began with my mom being diagnosed with cancer. My mom went through 16 rounds of chemo, 28 rounds of radiation and a mastectomy. Without the medical insurance provided by my dad’s job, my mom would not have received the treatment she needed in order to continue watching my siblings and I. Sadly, not everyone has that medical insurance.
America’s healthcare costs an average of $10,000 per person, and it doesn’t provide any type of universal health coverage according to Physicians for a National Health Program. As stated by PBS, over 44 million people in the U.S don’t have medical insurance or assistance, and 38 million don’t have enough insurance to cover all the costs.
This generation is crumbling, and it’s because health insurance is unaffordable to the people who need it the most. Developing countries have already reformed and provide accessible healthcare for their citizens. America has been lagging behind - it’s about time for our country to follow suit. Help us make a stance and encourage leaders to make healthcare affordable to its citizens.
