What might happen if you asked kids why Thomas expected to win and why they think Grace won instead? This would show who understands electoral votes in each state and what it takes to win an election.

The students could make a T Chart of what Thomas and Grace did to prepare for the election and then discuss who seemed like the better leader and why.

The students all thought the response to this was by voting. The next question is HOW. This story shows the importance of electoral votes. It would be great for students to explain that in their own words.

You could have students list criteria for a good collaborative conversation and then ask them to think about how well they met the criteria of a good collaborative conversation.

The students all gave traits, but none gave an example or explained why a specific trait is needed. This is a great start, but as we move forward, we want to help students to think more deeply.
