Liz L(Nov 06 2021 3:42PM):
This conclusion is fine, but this student could be moved to a higher level. The student described why his brother didn't want to play, then he joined in because the others were having fun and finally he had a good day.

The conclusion could explain what was learned. Take a responsible risk – try something; it might turn our really well.
Liz L(Nov 06 2021 3:45PM):
I didn't see dialogue in the criteria, but it is in the standard. This student did well. The next step is to indent when the speaker changes.
Liz L(Nov 06 2021 3:46PM):
This shows the importance of team work. Next step: You might ask the student to explain how they worked together and what they learned by doing that.
Liz L(Nov 06 2021 4:01PM):
This is a thorough list of what they did on the trip, but it lacks the voice, description and message of the first two. Perhaps showing this student excerpts from the first two and asking probing questions might help her to make it more interesting.
Liz L(Nov 07 2021 8:48AM):
Here we could help to develop voice by asking. Can you describe the line to show us how long it was. What did you do or say to show you were bored?
Liz L(Nov 07 2021 8:54AM):
This is a good opportunity to help the student to add vivid description by describing the treats using the different senses.
Liz L(Nov 07 2021 8:59AM):
This student gave a list in chronological order. The expectations set were to have a beginning, middle and end and to use vivid descriptions. You also asked for a problem, how it ends and how you felt.

This student would benefit from more explicit guidelines (learning targets) probing questions and student samples that show how expectations can be met.
Liz L(Nov 07 2021 9:04AM):
This student gave a problem and showed how it was resolved. That's a good start. The next step is to focus attention on details about how he feel, how he felt when he fell and later when Dad arrived.

He could also use an introduction sentence telling where he was, when and what happened. You might use a sentence frame to begin with.
Liz L(Nov 07 2021 9:06AM):
Here's another student who is listing events. Clear expectations and scaffolding will help these students to meet and even exceed expectations. We will work on this next session.
Giving questions like these is very helpful. We might explore ways to make them even more clear to students.
For example: Introduce your characters and tell where they are.
Explain the problem or goal.
Tell what they did to solve the problem or reach the goal.
Explain what happened as a result of their actions.
Tell how they felt and what we can learn.
