I'm curious how student creation of learning expectations actually works. I'd like to know more about what it actually looks like in the classroom.
ANDREA M(Dec 02 2021 9:54AM):
I am worried about how this will work with the new curriculums that are used. They are very explicit about what is being taught as well as what materials are used.
Vasiliki M(Dec 02 2021 9:55AM):
I think that this step is important to scaffold instruction and get students ready for more co-created lessons and activities in the future. I like that the pictures and primary resources give students a chance to visualize and understand the content.
Robert A(Dec 02 2021 10:02AM):
Especially at younger ages, it is important for teachers to set a context, or frame of reference in which students can build up their ideas. This can allow for more effective student led lessons in the future.
JULIANA G(Dec 02 2021 10:07AM):
Learning targets can be used with success criteria for students to have a more explicit expectation of what they need to do when completing the learning target
Robert A(Dec 02 2021 10:01AM):
I add questions such as this into units with students and allowing them to have discussions and debates. I often do not take it farther than this step. How do you make changes beyond this without straying from curricula too far.
Demetra H(Dec 02 2021 10:04AM):
I like how students can take control of their learning in creating problems and trading the problems they've created with other students in the class.
Vasiliki M(Dec 02 2021 9:58AM):
We are starting our Argumentative Essay and I have students choose the topic they want to argue. To prepare them they read various articles, watch the news, etc and freewrite about social issues and topics they care about.
Vasiliki M(Dec 02 2021 9:59AM):
I also like to incorporate a debate. The debate sets us up for argumentative writing and the students love debating and arguing. They make suggestions as a class for the debate and then I put them on a Google Form and they voted. They are excited.
Tyler B(Dec 02 2021 10:04AM):
As a math teacher, I like the idea of having students think about how they would use the particular concepts in the real world. While I try and provide examples for them, I think it would be more valuable for students to think of it on their own.
