I like that these learning targets are very clear for students to understand what is expected of them and use student-friendly words.

We have just started a new reading writing program. We as a grade have been sitting down together a lot trying to make sense of the rubrics that come with the program, trying to make them more explicit. They also are often wordy and seem a little overwhelming for students. The checklists are more like explicit learning targets that we created based on the rubric, and we are able to include images that can help our students understand them further.

I'm wondering if I can statements must include a by. Teaching points in my school must. But this seems to me a good example of I can statements that are clear and succinct, even though they don't necessarily ass contain the word by.

Image 27: I am wondering if this activity is done within one day or two? If it is one day, I would simplify it and have students only work on half of the learning targets then on day two have students work on the other half.

The learning targets are very clear. I think how much gets done in one day depends on the group. Teachers need to make decisions based on what they know about the students in front of them.
1. Add pictures to match learning targets for ELLs and SWDs
2. Display 1 – 2 learning target for each lesson
3. Add the what and how to the learning target.
