To kick off the experience, we listened to this educator from the NYS Department of Conservation shared a read aloud of the book, "River," by Elisha Cooper. The educator is reading the book from a canoe on the Hudson River.

How might the viewing of this video lead students to develop theories and pose questions?

Dolphins must of been in the Hudson River during a time where the river seemed safe enough for them to swim in it. Dolphins are very smart and perceptive. They are my favorite animals. This may lead students to pose questions and develop theories by what they already know about the river and about dolphins and what they want to learn more about.
Shanice Praylow(Jul 10 2023 5:53PM):
Students will wonder as well how did the dolphins get there, what made them come, how far did they go to get there, and where will they go after. kids will be very shock and start to wonder all about dolphins and their arrival at the hudson river
Julys Guzman(Jul 13 2023 1:34AM):
Getting a deeper knowledge about dolphins
more
Students will need to make research about dolphins’ habitats and behavior to give answers to their questions about why dolphins were swimming in the Hudson River.
caitlin lopez(Jul 10 2023 5:47PM):
This would be fantastic for talking about migrant patterns, how dolphins travel, how they can end up in rivers, etc.
Gabriella Jordan(Jul 10 2023 5:48PM):
it might make kids wonder why is it so odd that dolphins are in the hudson river. Why it sounds so shocking / not likely.
Anika Joseph(Jul 10 2023 5:49PM):
Viewing this video could help students to have a real look at what is occurring, and all them to use clues from the dialogue along with what they see to develop these theories.
Humayra Islam(Jul 10 2023 5:51PM):
Students can develop theories by studying on typical habitats of dolphins and raising questions as to why they're in the rivers. They can identify pros and cons of dolphins in the river which gets more questions out of them.

There are many clips especially on Tik Tok of animals trying to get humans attention to seek their help. Therefore what a student may have seen on tik tok may pose the question “Maybe they were seeking help?”.
The sarcastic ending made by the man may influence the kids to believe that there are other things in the Hudson. This may cause students to come up with different theories or ideas of what else might be in the Hudson.
I’m surprised seeing this video as I love dolphins but I also feel worried about their health; hopefully they don’t have any health issue due to pollution and bacterias!
Marina Lombardo(Jun 26 2023 5:35PM):
A Day in the Life of the River gave us some insight into how the health of the Hudson River and its' tributaries is measures. Additionally, we learned more about what creatures make their home here too!

How might this video get vstudents thinking about problems?
Me. Rahim Ahmed(Jul 16 2023 6:32PM):
I think this video elaborates on how pollution and climate change affects the world. Students can learn about the how and the why behind pollution and climate change without learning the effects it has. This video is great in a visual and real world appro
Me. Rahim Ahmed(Jul 10 2023 5:49PM):
I find it to be creative that students can watch a read aloud about a dolphin while the speaker is on the boat. Serves as a visual!

I think this encourages students to develop theories and pose questions by it allows them to think about why is it so surprising that dolphins are in the Hudson and what change that brought them there. This also gives a sense of hope that they can do something in order to improve its pollution.
Oscar Castellar(Jul 10 2023 5:51PM):
I would be so frustrated if I saw those dolphins swimming away. How dare they stop my amazing experience of being so close to a dolphin. I think my driving words would start coming out. Would love to see where they were heading next.
