After watching the video on humane education and relating it to my own upbringing, I found myself contemplating society’s, schools’, and the government’s position on this matter. . I am now curious about the strategies, methods, and initiatives needed to develop additional humane education schools, not only in the USA but around the world. Will we be integrating humane education principles in the same way that technology has been incorporated into schools?

I like how they mention that because they are solving real world problems it makes them see themselves as important people. Having students feel positive emotions when doing any task can (in my opinion) have a positive impact on their work.

I like the open ended questions the teacher asks. Although the students are giving straight answers, it can open up a discussion.

Although I believe this is an amazing project for students, teachers should also make sure all students are learning about each part individually. In my experience, I only worked on the design. My teammates did the rest of the work. After this experience, I realized I didn’t learn anything about the actual functionality of a robot. Hands on activities are necessary, but so are lessons for students to learn on each aspect of the activity.

I admire the effectiveness of the teacher’s innovative and problem-based approach to engage young learners and promote mathematical thinking. . This reminds me of project based learned, where students are challenged to address an issue that is representative of them and their environment. It is nice that the students get to utilize a resource that they see daily to create solutions to problems in their environment.

These projects really take a whole team of teachers in different subject areas. Students not only develop design thinking, but are also developing reading skills, writing skills, presentation skills, and more as they engage in projects like this. Plus, they seem so motivated. I love problem-based learning units. =)
