Logan Kilbourne(Mar 09 2017 9:57AM):
i think that its amazing how he could either predict the future or people took his example and used it in real life
Jenna Sandlin(Mar 09 2017 9:57AM):
Cool predictions
more
I think that it is really cool/amazing that he could have thought of these innovations that at the time were never thought of. It really makes you think about the kinds of things that could be invented in the future.
Avery Kniskern(Mar 09 2017 9:58AM):
I wonder if other people back in the 1950's were wondering when these things were going to be made when they read his books?
paige rhodes(Mar 09 2017 10:44AM):
I was wondering that too because now when we are reading there are those things that they did not think of that could happen
Maddie Phillips(Mar 09 2017 9:58AM):
I think it is amazing that anyone could have predicted virtual reality. Especially in an era when tv was not popular and there was no color tv.
[Edited]
Chris Dowling(Mar 09 2017 9:58AM):
He did describe the earbuds in pretty good way, "Like little seashells". He described this and these items hadn't even existed yet.
William McDulin(Mar 09 2017 10:33AM):
I feel like many of the technology in his books have advanced even further than what have been shown in what he has wrote. For example round virtual reality rooms have gotten more advanced then just a room.
[Edited]
Darby Thurston(Mar 09 2017 10:34AM):
It's very cool that some ideas have been around this long.
more
The idea of virtual reality was in sci-fi author’s minds for a long time, so it’s very cool to see that we are getting close to having full virtual reality.
Claire Wiley(Mar 09 2017 10:36AM):
I can't believe how long it took to create some things and how short of time it took to create others. Some thing are just more advanced and harder to create.
Madi Almond(Mar 09 2017 10:36AM):
It's amazing how Bradbury thought about an automated home that could take care of its owners. Then about 40 years later they came out with the "Smart Home" concept. Even though it doesn't take care of its owners is still kind of the same thing.
[Edited]
Jenna Sandlin(Mar 09 2017 10:37AM):
I wonder..
more
I wonder where he got the inspirations for the things he thought of before they were invented. Could it have been things that he wanted? Or maybe things that would make his life easier.
paige rhodes(Mar 09 2017 10:37AM):
I really like how this short story writes the characters thoughts so its sort of like the character is the narrator.
Andrea Mier y Teran(Mar 09 2017 10:38AM):
I think it is very interesting to see that someone has the creativity to make up something that is very advanced without there being anything to get his ideas from.
Jenna Sandlin(Mar 09 2017 10:38AM):
It's strange
more
It’s strange to thing that certain objects/appliances that are normal to us now were such a strange thing to think of back when these stories were written.
Darby Thurston(Mar 09 2017 10:38AM):
"Seashells"
more
The names this author gave devices are kind of funny when you actually have a name for them. I wouldn’t ever think of earbuds as seashells, but Bradbury did.
William McDulin(Mar 09 2017 10:38AM):
I like how they use the term Wall-TV while a lot people now would consider normal. Because there was not a flat screen TV when this was written he had to use the term Wall TV as if it were unusual.
Philip Dubuc(Mar 09 2017 10:39AM):
If something is already invented Ray made a new and better version of it that makes sense and is starting to actually happen.
[Edited]
Avery Kniskern(Mar 09 2017 10:40AM):
It says that the story that went with this prediction is "The Murderer" and I wonder if Ray Bradbury had everyone wearing wrist radios in the story or just one specific person?
Lydia Dunkle(Mar 09 2017 10:41AM):
That is weird.
[Edited]more
That is very weird how the home keeps caring for itself after the owners have been killed. It does sound really interesting though, a home caring for itself.
Madi Almond(Mar 09 2017 10:41AM):
It's like Bradbury could read the future because around 1950 Bradbury came up with the wall TV. Then in 1977 the large flat screen TV came out which is the exact same thing.
I notice that some of these inventions were far apart from when Ray Bradbury put them in his stories to when they were actually invented. For example the virtual reality room has many years separating when it was invented vs when it was in the story but the seashell radios and the earbuds were really close.
Ella Wisner(Mar 09 2017 10:42AM):
I think the idea of an Automated Home is a great idea because it is more efficient in the world we live in today. For example, if you go on vacation you could control your homes settings without being home.
Andrea Mier y Teran(Mar 09 2017 10:43AM):
I wonder if anyone got ideas tom make these things from the stories he made. Like did people get the idea to make a large flat-screen TV from his story.
Madi Almond(Mar 09 2017 10:43AM):
It's cool that now some people basically have some of Bradbury's predictions. Like the wrist radio is kind of like an Apple Watch.
Philip Dubuc(Mar 09 2017 10:44AM):
I wonder how Ray go his inspiration to think of these predictions. If he has more when will those one's become a reality?
Philip Dubuc(Mar 09 2017 10:46AM):
I wonder what would've happened if cameras weren't invented. Would we have to see everything we own so it won't get stolen.
Maddie Phillips(Mar 09 2017 10:46AM):
I don't think the smart home concept is really comparable to a system that can care for its owner. There may be systems that can do this one day, but right now the concept of a smart home is not far enough along to be mentioned in this way.
SARVESH SUDHAHARAN(Mar 09 2017 9:58AM):
I think that it is cool that he was able to even think of this way before any world-wide usage of technology had occurred.
Meredith Seta(Mar 09 2017 10:40AM):
I think that it is really cool how a lot of the predictions that Bradbury said would happen actually did happen at a similar time than what he predicted. I have heard of virtual reality, but not a virtual reality room. Maybe it is a real thing, but I've-
more
Tara Daniels(Mar 09 2017 10:51AM):
I think that it is cool how he is describing this room in complete detail and then the virtual reality room that fits that exact description.
William McDulin(Mar 09 2017 10:43AM):
I believe the apple watch is more like the "Wrist Radio". I feel like if this were to be updated many of the similarities to things would be different.
Annabel Howe(Mar 09 2017 10:34AM):
I thought it was interesting how ear buds weren't invented until the 1990s. I guess I had never thought about it, but it's interesting how they weren't invented that long ago.
Annabel Howe(Mar 09 2017 10:36AM):
It's cool had Bradbury predicted this in the 1950s, and it didn't become a reality until 1992. It's cool that he predicted it nearly 40 years before it happened.
Maddie Phillips(Mar 09 2017 10:42AM):
It is really amazing that in a time when cell phones didn't exist some one predicted that they could be the size of a watch.
Annabel Howe(Mar 09 2017 10:39AM):
It's interesting how Bradbury wrote these stories and predicted these inventions in the 1950s, and they didn't start becoming reality until the 1960s. I wonder if these inventions were even being considered at that time, or if he completely made them up?
SARVESH SUDHAHARAN(Mar 09 2017 10:41AM):
I don't know how that compares to ear bud headphones because they are wired to your computer but in the book it seems like it isn't
Annabel Howe(Mar 09 2017 10:43AM):
This prediction is being connected to street surveillance, but the story said that there were camera helicopters. Today, that's also a reality. News helicopters take overhead footage of different areas, and cameras can be attached to drones.
Ian Wilson(Mar 09 2017 10:47AM):
I noticed that there were two timelines. One timeline of his predictions compared to a timeline of modern day electronices.
Avery Horton(Mar 09 2017 10:56AM):
The two scales both have the same times to each other. I think this is so they can compare predictions to reality on the time scale.
It’s almost as if Ray were able to travel to the future because not only did he predict what was going to be invented, but he also predicted the time it was going to be invented.
johnny wettengel(Mar 09 2017 10:41AM):
Time machine?
more
Did he have a time machine or was he just insanely smart however he did this it is scary and if someone else starts making predicts like this we better listen up.
