After researching 2 different ecosystems students will write an informative essay to compare and contrast the two ecosystems.

General Description of the Task:
After completing our multiplication unit, students solved multiplication word problems using different strategies. Students were asked to analyze the problems by thinking about what they were being asked and how to attack the problems using strategies learned. Students were also asked to explain their thought process and why they chose a specific strategy. Finally, students reflected on the strategies they had learned and which one they felt comfortable teaching it to others.

General Description of the Task:
During our Journalism unit, we wrote both short news articles and feature articles. Students chose to publish our feature articles. In feature articles, we learned that reporters include an introduction, subsections with headings, quotes, ministories, and a conclusion.
Reporters showed all that they know about journalism in their feature articles!

Grade 5: Topic 3 - Students will be assessed on how to fluently multiply multi-digit whole numbers.

After a character unit during SEL we used a read aloud Carla’s Sandwich to teach kindness and understanding of others. Students watched a reading of the story and as a class we began discussions about being unique. These activities followed.

tudents were given a culturally responsive exemplar that was geared towards their meeting their individual learning needs (Accessible, On lEVEL, Advanced) based on the mathematical concept of rounding decimals and finding the difference between two decimal based values.

General Description of the Task:
Students read the informational text “Fragile Frogs” in the Text Collection. The text includes information about the declining number of frogs around the world and the reasons for the decline. Students wrote persuasive letters to lawmakers explaining why they should create laws to protect frogs. Students had to include evidence from the text to support their responses.

General Description of the Task:
Students work in partnerships to refine their use of various subtraction strategies by identifying each strategy and focusing on how each strategy starts in order to efficiently solve 3-digit subtraction problems.

Directions given to Students:
The scholars were asked to use CUBES to help them use the word problem. Then they were asked to use M.E.S.S. to show their solution. They were encouraged to use the distributive property.
