My transitional bilingual class had been learning about Latino Heritage by learning about Celia Cruz, Tito Puente and Selena. Students were asked to research (ask family members, look for pictures, etc) the country they, or their parents, are from. Students were asked to bring the following information:
The students then created their Heritage project in school. If they did not have information, i allowed them to look for it in their ipad or classroom computers.

Beginning of year writing assignment to assess writing skills. Students were told to recount an event with their family and write details about it.

Task 1 - Students watched a video about different occupations https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r6Oxqyd5qUw. Then they had to draw and try to write what they wanted to be when they grew up.
Task 2 - Students draw a picture and try to write how they are feeling on the mood meter.

Students were asked to complete an exit ticket following the completion of Topic 3 in Math. Students were asked to ‘make a 10’ anyway they knew how, using any of the strategies taught to them throughout the topic.

During the read aloud - Students discuss how having empathy, or understanding how someone feels, can help them respond in caring ways.
During the activity- Students identify the feelings of characters in scenarios, think about their own similar experiences, and describe ways to show empathy and caring to someone in those situations.

Students read Pete the Cat Rocking in My School Shoes. They were then asked to write a sentence to describe what they do in school.

General Description of the Task:
In this open task students were given an open number line. The task consisted of students writing a number in the blank square of the number line. They were asked to use a number they could work with. Then, students were directed to choose a number that were make sense for a midpoint of the number line. Finally, students used their number to solve an equation they created.

Monday Weekend New Task: Each Monday students write about their weekend as an informative assessment of student writing skills and progress. Students were told to recount an event that happened over the weekend by drawing a photo, labeling the picture and writing a sentence.
